Hotel Management students of American College visited the iconic Pinolo Italian Restaurant in the centre of Nicosia, gaining valuable insight into the real world of hospitality and food service.
The educational visit was organised as part of the courses Sanitation, Hygiene & Food Safety and Food & Beverage Management, offering students the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with real-life professional practice.
During the visit, students were introduced to essential aspects of restaurant operations, including cleaning and hygiene procedures, food storage and preservation, temperature control zones, and the application of HACCP principles. They also learned about kitchen organisation, workflow, and the importance of maintaining high standards in a professional kitchen environment.
In addition, the students explored key elements of restaurant management, such as menu planning, event organisation, customer service, and marketing strategies. Through these discussions, they gained a broader understanding of how a restaurant operates successfully, both operationally and strategically.
The visit allowed students to observe how daily processes are carried out in a real working environment, highlighting the importance of consistency, teamwork, communication, and attention to detail. It also provided them with valuable insights into the challenges and responsibilities faced by professionals in the hospitality industry.
Through direct interaction with experienced staff, students were able to ask questions, exchange ideas, and deepen their understanding of industry expectations and best practices. This hands-on experience enhanced their confidence and prepared them for future professional roles.
Such educational visits are an important part of the learning process, as they bridge the gap between theory and practice and help students better understand the demands of the hospitality sector.
This initiative reflects the commitment of American College to providing practical learning experiences that bring students closer to the labour market. By combining classroom education with real-world exposure, the college ensures that its students are well-prepared for successful careers in hospitality and tourism.
